Not a Newport 2

The Newport cut was invented at Florence Meat Market in Manhattan decades ago. It is a specific cut. This is not it. The name Newport is not registered with the US meat packing association and there is nothing illegal about misusing it. It is just troubling that a generally fine butcher such as Paisano's does this. Guys, either sell an actual Newport cut or just label this as what it is. I'll stick with Tri-Tip next time.

Not a Newport

I got excited when I saw “Newport Steak” in the description, but this wide, thin-cut slab does not resemble the steak given the Newport name by the recently departed Florence Meat Market. It’s just a rather lean, tough top sirloin. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose, but disappointing (and a little too pricey) given what I was expecting.
